“Goken is a valuable partner in every aspect of the customer’s experience at the HALO Wind Tunnel. From pre-test planning and logistics through data quality and delivery, the entire Goken team is focused on the one goal of delivering data that the customer can be confident in.”
- Mike Unger, Wind Tunnel Lead.
HALO Array System & Control Room
In 2022, Honda invested $124 million into building a state-of-the-art wind tunnel to “usher in a new era of auto development testing capabilities.” This facility, located at the Transportation Research Center in Raymond, Ohio, is on a level of its own in aerodynamic and aerocoustic testing.
Unique to North America, the HALO facility is set up on an interchangeable modular ground plane system, allowing easy transition between various test setups. Its capabilities are backed by a fan and tunnel capable of reaching wind speeds of 190 mph.
Known for its acoustic array, this HALO lab system has an external noise source locating accuracy of 5.0 cm. As one of the world’s quietest wind tunnels, at 140 kph (87 mph) wind speed, the noise level in the test facility is less than 57 dBA. As the industry continues to shift towards an electrified future, aeroacoustic testing and noise reduction will remain critical components in vehicle planning and design.
To connect North America and the rest of the world with this cutting-edge technology, HALO partnered with Goken, an Ohio-based engineering services company. This partnership ensures customers receive the security, confidentiality, performance, and best-in-class service associated with a world-class facility.
Goken’s role in this partnership is to lead all customer operations, from the initial interaction to facilitating the test plans, operating the wind tunnel, and securely delivering all test data.
“When the opportunity presented itself to partner with HALO, it was a no-brainer. There’s nothing like this in North America, and pairing the HALO capabilities with Goken’s engineering expertise made perfect sense. Customers can now have a completely customized testing experience, which they have enthusiastically embraced.”
